“Hamish grew up in Christchurch, New Zealand, and leaning to fly fish back in middle school sparked a life-long fascination with aquatic insects. In between fishing adventures, he completed his PhD in freshwater ecology at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and began a faculty position at the University of Maine in 2013. Hamish is a professor in Stream Ecology in the School of Biology and Ecology, and studies a range of topics in freshwater biology that generally focus on bugs, fish, and their food webs. Current projects include habitat restoration in Downeast Atlantic salmon streams, studying changes in caddisfly assemblages in ponds in the Colorado Rockies, and understanding what controls the abundance of green drake mayflies in the Yoke Ponds region of Maine
