Fly Tying Brewer High School
PFF hosts Fly Tying at the Brewer High School as part of the Brewer Outdoor Education Program.
2023 Report
Members of the Penobscot Fly Fishers just wrapped-up another successful week of teaching basic fly tying to students at Brewer High School. Approximately 150 “Witches” in the Outdoor Education and Forestry programs spent two days each learning to tie the Maple Syrup, Woolly Worm, and Woolly Bugger flies. Having led or co-led this event for the past 10 years I think this was our most successful and enjoyable session yet. Mark Savage’s students were all interested, engaged, and polite. It was heartening to see a large percentage of students asking for more materials to tie as many flies as their time would permit. I want to thank the following PFF club members for volunteering their time and talents, making the past week both rewarding and memorable. Jeremy LeClair, Rolfe Gerhardt, Abby Yoder, Charlie Tuck, Tom Armstrong, Elizabeth White, Peter Woodcock, Dean Williams, Alden Brown, Alan Gray, George Gray, and Larry Barrett who drove up from Clinton each morning. Also to Dick McCrum who was on ready alert status should we need a last-minute replacement. Iron Man and Iron Lady awards to Jeremy, Elizabeth, Charlie, and Peter who were there every day.
Thank you ALL!

Intermediate fly tying
Each year after the basic fly-tying class we offer additional intermediate fly tying. This offers some more advanced techniques and fly patterns. There will be a lead instructor showing the fly on the big screen, walking students through each fly step by step. There will not be individual instruction at each table. Students should bring their own fly tying tools, vises, thread, etc. Tying materials will be provided. Details regarding the cost will be posted on this page as we get close to the beginning date. This years class will be posted below TBA (this is subject to change in case of a weather cancellation of our basic class). The class this year will be a one day event held at the PCCA clubhouse
