Sean McCormick Fishing the Trout and Salmon on the Kennebec River

Picture
I started fly fishing and tying in the seventh grade. My father did not fly fish, so I learned to tie and cast by trial and error. I grew up on the Sheepscot River and spent most summer evenings while in high school chasing Atlantic Salmon. Later, I spent quite a bit of time and effort learning how to trout fish, which quickly became my obsession. I became a registered Maine Guide 33 years ago and have been guiding clients on the Kennebec River for trout and salmon until the water temps get too high midsummer, then for smallmouth bass until the water cools again each autumn. I started Blue Heron Fly Fishing when I became a guide, and I am on my fourth Hyde drift boat to start the upcoming season. I tie all of the flies that we use each season on the river and fly-tying has become an integral part of my guiding business. My son recently became licensed as a Maine Guide and he will be joining me this summer as he starts his own journey helping others enjoy their time on the Kennebec River.
